Des élèves de 7 pays d’Europe accueillis à Sainte Catherine dans le cadre du projet ESN « Art and Nature, in the Footsteps of Cézanne » (31 mars au 4 avril)

Cette année, le lycée Sainte Catherine a organisé son projet ESN, « Art and Nature, in the Footsteps of Cézanne » la semaine avant les vacances du printemps. Nous avons reçu un groupe de 16 élèves : Robin et Silke des Pays-Bas, Marlene d’Allemagne, Ilaria et Martina d’Italie, Inga et Tadeusz de Pologne, Dorà et Lili de Hongrie, Attila, Emese et Adrienn de la Transylvanie (région de la Roumanie où l’on parle le hongrois) et Defne S., Ipek, Defne Ü. et Nehir de Turquie.

Le programme de leur séjour fut dense pour les élèves étrangers comme pour leurs correspondants français. Le programme comprenait une cérémonie d’accueil à la mairie et un jeu de piste pour découvrir Aix le premier jour. Le deuxième jour une visite guidée du centre d’art du Château La Coste puis un atelier de théâtre avec la compagnie Evohé ont permis aux élèves de découvrir ce lieu exceptionnel, puis de mieux se connaître grâce aux échanges autour d’extraits du texte de Laurent Gaudé, Nous l’Europe, banquet des peuples. Une visite de Marseille s’imposait évidemment avec le Mucem, le quartier du Panier avec la Vieille Charité, et le Vieux Port. Une journée se déroula au pied de la Sainte Victoire ; après un cours d’art avec l’artiste américain Alan Roberts les élèves ont exercé leurs talents par du dessin au crayons pastel dans la nature. Une randonnée jusqu’au barrage de Bibemus, et une initiation au rugby a complété cette journée intense. 

Le dernier jour fut l’occasion pour des élèves polonais, hongrois, turcs, roumains, néerlandais de venir dans les classes du collège parler de leur pays et faire découvrir la sonorité de leur langue aux collégiens. Des visites guidées d’une exposition de Tal Coat, et du Pavillon Vendôme ont permis aux élèves de découvrir un peu plus l’offre culturelle d’Aix. Et finalement, après un apéritif d’au revoir dans le cloître de Sainte Catherine, nous avons assisté à un match de rugby mémorable entre Provence Rugby et le club de Dax.

Les élèves du projet ont défilé sur le stade avec les drapeaux de leurs pays respectifs et le drapeau européen. Ce fut un moment fort pour clore cette semaine riche en événements et en émotions. Cette semaine fut l’occasion de rencontres entre élèves français et élèves européens, de découverte de cultures différentes, et d’échanges entre jeunes, et nous espérons que des liens d’amitié ont pu se tisser pour l’avenir. Nos jeunes découvrent ainsi que l’Europe, ce n’est pas une notion abstraite, réduite à une administration dans des bureaux lointains, mais que l’Europe de demain se crée à travers la rencontre avec l’autre, par des liens, des échanges et des activités en commun.

Voici les témoignages de deux élèves du lycée Jànos Zsigmond à Cluj, en Transylvanie, qui nous ont envoyé leurs textes :

I was so excited about this project, as it seemed to combine two of my passions, art and nature. Although the daily programs differed from my expectations, I wasn’t disappointed, I had an amazing time.

On the first day we were seated in small groups and discussed different topics, which I think helped a lot with getting to know each other. After getting a little more comfortable, we got to discover the beautiful city center of Aix en Provence through a treasure hunt. Each team was made up of members with different nationalities, which also helped to get closer with the foreign students.

During the rest of the week we attended different museums and exhibitions, for example Château La Coste, the first place to combine a vineyard with art. 

We also visited Marseille, it was one of my favorite activities of the week, the city’s architecture really captivated me.

The most memorable moment for me was when we went into the mountains to paint and then played rugby afterward, the atmosphere was unmatched. 

We ended the week by attending a rugby game, where we even got the chance to go on the field and hold our nation’s flag.

Beyond the interesting programs I would like to highlight the community, firstly the French students and teachers, they were incredibly welcoming, secondly the other foreign students who were just as wonderful. I think I interacted with the most foreign students during this project and I hope this won’t be the last time I see some of them.

Last but not least I have to mention my host family, their hospitality made this week an even better experience. We spent a lot of time together and we got to learn so much about each other’s cultures. 

In conclusion this project was an unforgettable experience. I already miss France, and I am sure this won’t be my last time there.

My Experience in the Exchange Program in Aix-en-Provence

Participating in the exchange program in Aix-en-Provence, France, was truly a life-changing experience for me. From the very first day, I felt something special about the city—the warm sunlight, the beautiful architecture, the charming streets full of life, and the welcoming atmosphere all around me. It didn’t take long before I completely fell in love with the place.

 I genuinely enjoyed every part of the program. Whether it was exploring local markets, spending time with my host family, or simply walking through the old town, everything felt new and exciting. I had the chance to meet people from different cultures, make new friends, and practice my english in real-life situations. These are experiences that no classroom could ever offer.

 What made this program so meaningful to me is that it gave me something unique—something that cannot be experienced in any other way. It opened my eyes to a different way of living and thinking. I learned to step out of my comfort zone, to be more independent, and to appreciate the beauty of cultural differences. It completely changed my perspective on the world and on myself.

 This journey helped me grow both personally and emotionally. It taught me valuable lessons about connection and the importance of being open to new experiences. I came home not only with wonderful memories but also with a stronger sense of who I am and who I want to become.

 I’m incredibly thankful for this opportunity, and I will always carry the memories of Aix-en-Provence in my heart. It was truly an unforgettable chapter in my life—and I know it won’t be the last time I visit.
